Mega Evolution is an additional temporary form of evolution of certain Pokemon that have reached the final stage of evolution. Pokemon that perform Mega Evolution gain increased strength but their HP remains the same when they reach the maximum limit. Only certain Pokemon can perform Mega Evolution, requiring special stones as terms and conditions. Mega Evolution doesn’t just happen temporarily because changes in Pokemon game online occur in the trainers’ collections, not in one battle.
Mega Evolved Pokemon can be designated as Buddy Pokemon and can be used to fight in raids, Gyms or trainer battles (including against other players, Leaders and rocket team members). Please note that Pokemon that have gained Mega Evolution cannot be used to defend Gyms, traded, empowered or used in Go Battle League matches.
Primal Reversion is a similar mechanic which is exclusive to Kyogre and Groudon.
Mega Evolving a Pokemon
In order to Mega Evolve a Pokémon, Trainer needs Mega Energy of specific Pokemon. Pokemon will remain in their Mega Form for 8 hours. It will enter rest period once it expires. Only one of Trainer’s Pokemon can be Mega Evolved at any particular time. If another Pokemon is Mega Evolved, the previous Mega Evolved Pokemon will revert to standard form and enter rest period. Pokémon can also be Mega Evolved in a raid lobby or Trainer Battle preparation screens.
If a Pokemon has a different Mega Evolution form such as Charizard, trainers can choose which form they want to Mega Evolve that Pokemon. Pokemon that get Mega Evolve for the first time will be registered in the Mega and Primal Pokedex. The conditions for obtaining a Pokemon that can perform Mega Evolution are a Pokemon that has been purified from shadow poison or a Pokemon in a costume from a certain event. Clone Pokemon and Shadow Pokemon cannot be Mega Evolved.
Mega Energy
Mega Energy is a resource similar to Pokemon candy. Where each type of Pokemon has its own Mega Energy to evolve which other Pokemon cannot use. Unlike Candy, each type of Mega Energy has a maximum limit of 9999.
Mega Energy for certain species can be obtained by fighting certain Pokémon in Mega Raids, special Tier of Raid Battles, or by completing research tasks. Completing Mega Raids in a shorter time will produce more Mega Energy. Mega Energy is awarded after the raid is completed and there is no need to capture the Raid Boss. The data shown below applies to most Mega Raids. Mega Rayquaza is an exception; it uses the same number as the Primal Energy of the Primal Strike.
Mega Level and Bonus
Mega Evolution will increase the level of certain Pokemon even higher and unlock increasing bonuses. Of course, Pokemon who successfully perform Mega Evolution will increase the attack power of all Pokemon when fighting in Raid Battles by 10%. If the attack has the same type as the Mega Pokemon type it receives a 30% increase. Please note that this bonus cannot be stacked if there are multiple Mega Evolved Pokemon battling at the same time. Higher Mega levels reduce the Mega Energy cost of passing the rest period. The following is a table showing the costs required immediately after Mega Evolution is completed:
